The tennis circuit dedicates specific championships to specific surfaces that may or may not be affable to a players technical strengths. A good 'serve and volley' player is likely to play their best game on grass making the surface a key element within the game. We work with artificial turf, acrylic and bitumen macadam as well as natural turf. The traditional surface for lawn tennis, as its formal name suggests, is that of natural grass. Natural grass is a high maintenance surface. The financial demands and prolific tending required for the Wimbledon Championship courts may look like a worthwhile investment on day one. However, by the end of the fortnight they are exhausted of all life making it neither viable nor practical for most other clubs to operate in this way. Artificial turf provides a reliable alternative. Research and technology have allowed us to develop systems that need minimal maintenance, may be played on all year round and replicate grass in both terms of play and aesthetics. The speed of ball bounce is controlled by the type of material used in manufacture. Grand Slam is a fast and favourable dedicated tennis surface with a short pile length and minimal sand content. A surface played on at many top clubs and tennis centres. Acrylic is frequently used at major championships. It is a high tolerance, impervious surface that provides an accurate ball bounce. It can also be cushioned to customise the speed of play. It is a high maintenance surface and is slow to drain which makes it a more favourable surface for indoor use. Probably the most commonly used surface for recreational and community tennis is bitumen macadam. It is a low budget, hardwearing surface suitable for a wide range of sports. It is a good general purpose surface but not appropriate for higher level competitive tennis. We strongly advise the use of an acrylic colour coat for this surface as not only does it enhance the look of the court but it also includes additional particles that increase surface grip giving the player greater confidence. |
