Fulham's urgency for reliable surface
Weeks of torrential rain, a waterlogged pitch and an unplayable surface.
Not a formula welcomed by London's Fulham Football Club in their recent
quest for a place in the Premiership League. They needed a reliable surface
to train upon and without delay.
The solution lay across the channel. Coaches Jean Tigana and Christian
Damiano having worked in France became familiar with the Desso DLW surface
at FC Monaco. This was the surface for Fulham. The DD SoccerGrass system
uses long lasting crown fibre and has a unique fill of sand and rubber
meaning that the team would be able to keep on training in their normal
studded boots and on a surface that closely replicates natural grass.
So having decided on a surface, the pressure was on to get it shipped
over for work to commence. We had managed to create a slot for our specialist
team to install the system the moment it arrived. The club increased our
productivity by allowing us to work into the late evening under their
floodlighting system; an innovative use of their pre-existing sports facilities
we felt.
Within two weeks of the initial SOS call we were installing the system
and within four, Fulham were presented with an excellent new training
pitch and the Premiership beckoned.
Celebration for Princes Park Youth FC
Forces recently pulled together at Princes Park including MP's, the council,
Sport England, the FA, Managers and members of the club. They had finally
achieved their target in providing a new home with facilities including
an all-weather, floodlit football area. A P Thompson, both sponsor and
contractor completed the work in April and now the club hopes to build
on its ethos of offering 'sporting and enjoyable football and recreation
to young people whatever their background'

facilities. The scheme approaching £2 million includes: 3 artificial turf
pitches, 2 athletics tracks (1 synthetic and 1 natural), 11 natural turf
fields, 2 training areas, 12 tennis/netball courts, 3 basketball courts,
2 cricket wickets and an area for various field events.
